The protagonist, or the main character in the novel is Elizabeth Bennet who is the second of five daughters of a countryman living near the fictional town of Meryton in Hertfordshire. After some months, Elizabeth finds herself attracted to Darcy after she finds out that he helped finding her younger sister, Lydia, who had eloped with Mr. Wickham, and had brought disgrace to the family. In the end, despite pressure from Mr. Darcy's aunt, Lady Catherine de Bourgh, she accepts Mr. Darcy's second proposal.

REACTION: Pride and Prejudice is one of my favorite novels.
I have read it several times and I will do it again! It refreshes me every time
I read it. I like it mainly because of the way it has been written. It is a
classic romantic story with a touch of humor and very engaging characters. The
book made me laugh, cry and even feel warm and fuzzy inside. Furthermore, I
like it for how a rich and proud man was brought to his knees by a young,
confident and not so rich girl. The character of Elizabeth amazes me in many
ways, and it is fascinating to get to know her character. Unlike other women of
her age; her sisters and friends, she lives outside of social realities of
marriage and life. She is smart, intelligent, and has a strong personality. Wealth
doesn't seem to impress her. While most girls would consider getting married as the only
goal of life, Elizabeth did not like to run after rich men. Finally, through
Elizabeth's character, Jane Austen in trying to convey that we all need to
update our views and ideas about the world, and not stick to our first
impressions about people.
